--------- In other news!----------
Did you know? There are a lot of national holidays today – and even one international one!
Here are three of the coolest holidays that are going on today!
Here are three of the coolest holidays that are going on today!
National New Mexico Day – In 2017, holidays were created to celebrate each state in the
order that they joined the union, starting with Independence Day and ending with Hawaii.
Today is New Mexico’s Day! You can celebrate today by simply enjoying the fact that
you live in the Land of Enchantment, one of the most culturally diverse states in the US!

The Army’s Birthday – On June 14th, 1775 the oldest branch of the military was established
– before the official birth of the entire country! It was a volunteer brigade of amateur
troops defending colonists against British tyranny and according to battlefield.com, there
were never more than 48,000 Continental soldiers at one time. Today, the US Army
consists of well over one million active duty soldiers and another 800,000 National Guard
and Reserves members. Celebrate today by wishing the Army a happy birthday and
learning about the oldest branch of the US military!

International Bath Day – And finally, the only international holiday of today is International
Bath Day. You can probably guess what this one celebrates, although there’s a slight twist
on it. This day celebrates filling up a tub with nice warm water, throwing some toys in it,
and experimenting with the physical properties of water. This came about because
(theoretically) on June 14th, Greek mathematician, scientist and scholar, Archimedes,
discovered while taking a bath that an object’s volume could be accurately measured
by being submerged in water. This made the mathematician so excited that he reportedly
leapt out of the bathtub and yelled, “Eureka, Eureka!” as he ran through the streets of
Syracuse, Greece. Since Archimedes’ exact birthday is unknown
(we only know the year: 87 BC), the day chosen to celebrate this discovery is the
day he supposedly leapt out of the bathtub: June 14th.
