Wacky Wednesday with Gabi

Happy third day of camp everyone!! It's me, Gabi (the camp leader with the awesome pink hair), writing the blog for today. I specifically picked to write the blog on Wednesdays because the little Wednesday frog is one of my favorite memes, but also because I like to connect with all of you amazing young women and learn about why each of you like computer science and where in the future you want to go with it or if you've just started YWiC I like to encourage you to keep going even if it seems impossible!!

The first time I heard about computer science was towards the end of my freshman year in high school. People from the computer science club had came to my "career exploration" class to tell us that in the next school year the computer science club wasn't going to have to be a club anymore because our schools principal had gave the green light for computer science classes to start! Ever since then I've taken any computer science class I could because I was so interested in it.

Now, I'm in my sophomore year of college pursuing a degree in computer science! I love computer science, it's something that will always advance and can help to advance other fields of science, or it can be paired with nearly any other career you could possibly want.
Computer science would allow you to have a job where you continue to learn and I think that's the best part! I still have a lot to learn about cybersecurity, which is what I want to do with computer science, and just like anything new it'll be challenging but I don't plan on giving up even when it gets tough, because I've put in a lot of hard work to learn the little bit about computer science that I know. I'm going to continue to work hard just like all of you do in the camps everyday!
It's truly an inspiration to see you all push yourselves to see how far you can take your programming skills. If you're new to the camp, seeing you all try something new, learn, and have fun with the challenges that the other camp leaders as well as myself give you, it reminds me that I should be just as excited to work through challenges to see the amazing reward!

With all that being said, every single one of you awesome young girls is going to achieve something amazing!! Even if you don't know exactly what you want to do in the future that's completely fine, because simply being here in camp is an accomplishment of its own. It shows all of us that you have so much potential to succeed!

***REMEMBER***
No matter how small you think your successes or accomplishments are, it's your confidence that will make you shine, be proud of everything that you've worked hard to do!!

Leader: Me (Gabi)

1. I have 3 cats
2. I grow cacti
3. I have done martial arts for 9 years

Pictures! Add pictures of your builds.

I want you all to think of an accomplishment in computer science you've experienced. This could be getting your LilyPad to light up yesterday, if you remembered what a computer science core concept meant, or if you learned a new programming language! Mine is gaining the confidence in my computer science abilities to commit to a computer science degree. If you haven't had that much experience in computer science that's okay, I still want you to write about an achievement or something that excited you about computer science from yesterday and today's lessons and why!

I also want you to write about a non-computer science related accomplishment. Maybe you finished a super long book, or maybe you scored a point for your sports team! Mine is that I taught myself cursive and a little bit of calligraphy.
