Ellen Ochoa- Born in Los Angeles, California, astronaut Ellen Ochoa first left Earth in July 1991 and became the world's first Hispanic female astronaut. A mission specialist and flight engineer, she has since logged more than 900 hours in space on four flights, the last in 2002. Dr. Ochoa's many awards include NASA's Exceptional Service Medal (1997) and Outstanding Leadership Medal (1995). She became the director of the Johnson Space Center.Besides being an astronaut, researcher, and engineer, Ochoa is a classical flutist.

Kim Masi- Mechanical Engineer at Walt Disney Company, Orlando, FL.
Interview with Kim by engineergirl.org:

"My name is Kim Masi and I've been working for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts for about 2 and a half years now. For the last 2 years I've been working as an Engineer for the Design & Engineering department, which supports all of the attractions, entertainment infastructures, parades, transportation, and just about anything you can imagine here at Walt Disney World. One of my biggest projects has been working on the opening of the brand new Festival Of Fantasy Parade, which features lots of new exciting floats and technological advances.I have a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University in Boston, MA."

Marylin Jorgensen Reece- One of the most travelled pieces of highway in the entire United States was designed by a woman who said she studied engineering because she liked mathematics and "didn't want to be a teacher." During the time when Marilyn Jorgensen Reece (1926-2004) was in college, women who had an aptitude and bent toward the technical weren't often encouraged into many career paths other than teaching. Reece achieved distinction not only in becoming the first female to earn full licensing as a civil engineer in the state of California in 1954, but she also was entrusted with the design of the San Diego-Santa Monica
 freeway interchange in Los Angeles.

Blog Prompt:

Please write 2 sentences each for what you did today in your Core class, Workshop I and Workshop II.

If you could create a national holiday, what would be be? What would it be called and what would the holiday be about?

Jen - I would create National Do Something For Someone Else Day! The nice deeds wouldn't have to be complicated or extravagant, just something as simple as making someone a cup of tea or writing a "Have a nice day!" post-it note to a friend. An act of kindness can totally turn someone's day around, and I think we should all try to do something nice every day. :)

Noor-  I would create National Watch Netflix Day! Watch Netflix all day! I usually don't have time to watch any shows because of school and work. I would want a day to just binge watch Netflix!!!

At the end of each day of camp, we encourage our students to fill out a small survey so that we can better craft an amazing camp experience. The survey for today can be found
here!
