Gabi Wednesday

Hello Campers!!! It is yet again Wednesdays my dudes. This is my favorite day because it's the most memein' day of the week. If you haven't noticed, I love memes and vines. It's because of my love for memes and because I like to connect with all of you campers that I had decided to take over the blog one day out of the week.

If you're in the high school alum camp and it's your first week of camp, welcome!! If you're continuing camp and it's your second week, keep up the hard work!! Whether you're in the morning or afternoon camp there are only two more days left in camp!! All that time went by so fast, soon enough it'll be August and we'll all start school again.

While some of you might not be excited for school, I am! In case you forgot, I study computer science here at NMSU and I couldn't be happier with my choice. I love computer science and hope to one day work for any company doing things in cybersecurity or network security (which is pretty much any company)! I want to keep their private information safe and I'm learning just how to do that. Depending on which school you all go to, you may have computer science classes to take during high school. That's something I highly recommend if computer science has caught your attention. Taking computer science classes in high school can help you get ahead for college whether you decide to become a computer science major or not!

If you were here last week you got to see Clara's presentation about NMSU and you got to meet Angela this week. Angela is a stellar woman in computing, she's a math and computer science major!! Angela is usually with us working for YWiC but she's currently doing an internship for Nike!! Next semester another amazing YWiC worker, Vensan, is going to be a student at Google where she'll continue to learn about computer science as she is also a math and computer science major!!!

You all may be wondering why I put such an emphasis on the word "and." That's because computer science is such an extensive area of study that you could pair it with nearly anything you wanted to!! You all are still in high school so it's okay if you don't know what you want to do in the future (even if you're going into your senior year). You all still have plenty of time to decide.

I encourage you to pursue computer science but like I said, it can be paired with nearly anything!! If you wanna go into the medical field but still like computer science, bioinformatics is something you could look into!! With bioinformatics, you could build computer models of viruses, vacancies, how a sickness could spread and so much more!! Maybe you really like music, there's lots of neat ways to code music! Not just with LilyPad Arduino but with this cool website called EarSketch where you use JavaScript or Python to code music!! The possibilities are endless.

With all that being said I would like for you all to think of things that you want to be when you grow up, even if you're not sure write down some careers you think you might like!! For your blog I want you to take those possible career choices and write down where there's technology, computer science, or computer science concepts in that career! So even if you wanted to be a chef, there's still technology there, such as the cooking appliances and a computer science concept used would be algorithms (a series of steps to solve a problem). In a chef's case, algorithms would be used to follow a recipe! If you already want a job that uses a lot of technology, computer science, and computer science, then write in your blog why you want that job!!

Define a problem that is currently a problem in the world. How could technology solve the problem?
Revisit your past blog answers, and continue to add to them.
